It’s no secret that MAGA hates the Establishment Clause with a white-hot passion. Their book banning, book burning, and other censorship crusades make their contempt for the Free Speech and Free Press clauses very evident. And they hate religious liberty with such intensity that they are now trying to redefine “religious freedom” to give adherents of the de facto “official religion” free license to bully others and harm others at will.
Which First Amendment right could MAGA hate more intensely than any of these?
The right to petition the government for the redress of grievances. MAGA wants you to have nowhere to turn when they target you for harassment or victimization.
Method 1: Denying access to redress through the courts.
The fascistsᴹᴬᴳᴬ have been attempting to cut off our access to relief through the judicial branch for decades. Whether it’s decrying and denouncing Marbury v. Madison, which affirmed the power of the Supreme Court to overturn unconstitutional laws, or people such as Ron Paul trying to selectively deprive the courts of the power to overturn legislation that tramples on important individual rights, MAGA has been trying endlessly to close our avenues to redress in the courts.
Method 2: Reducing the number of our judicially enforceable Constitutional rights to zero.
The late Reagan judicial nominee Robert Bork, who was soundly rejected for the Supreme Court by the Senate, stated that legislatures should have “wide powers” and that “only a few subjects” had been made “off limits by the Constitution.” Far right legal theorist Thomas Jipping, in the Christian Coalition’s Christian American newspaper, has stated that legislation enacted by direct popular vote (such as a ballot proposition) should be absolutely, 100% immune to invalidation by the Courts, a grievance that usually arises when the purpose and effect of the proposition is to take rights away from groups of people. The belief that ballot propositions that take away rights should be untouchable by the courts is reflected in the right wing chant “the will of the people” when ballot measures were being used to harm the LGBTQ community.
So much for the right wing chant, “We are not a democracy. We are a Constitutional Republic.”
Method 3: Defunding or limiting the scope of law enforcement agencies that address civil rights violations.
Many MAGA devotees talk openly about defunding or even disbanding the FBI and the Department of Justice. What is it about these agencies that rankle MAGA fascists so much?
These are the agencies that pursue and prosecute domestic MAGA terrorists, that’s what. These are the agencies to which threatened teachers, school board members, and election workers can turn to when faced with right wing terrorist threats.
MAGA fascists don’t like that. MAGA doesn’t like it when their victims have somewhere to turn for protection and justice.
When MAGA succeeds in destroying every forum, court, document, system, and agency that gives persecuted people redress against persecution, that’s when the Second Amendment will be the only refuge left.
And that’s when MAGA will come for our guns. Not their own, just ours.

I never thought about it that way, but you are absolutely right when it comes to keeping people from having their grievances heard in earnest.
Yup. MAGA wants their intended victims to be 100% defenseless with nowhere to turn..
