Take, for example, Slouching Toward Gomorrah, written by that late, bitter enemy of individual liberty, the rejected Supreme Court nominee Robert Bork. At the YouTube video cited, you may see an advertisement for another far right presentation by Hillsdale College that denigrates and bashes the daylights out of America.
In the same “Blame America” vein is a piece written by extremist Dinesh D’Souza: “The Enemy At Home: The Cultural Left and Its Responsibility for 9/11.” It blames America for the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, and borders on making excuses for the terrorists who attacked on us that day – appearing to justify the terrorists’ anger at us because – wait for it – some Americans use their freedoms more than D’Souza might like. This passage is but a tiny segment of D’Souza’s America-bashing rage: “the cultural left and its allies in Congress, the media, Hollywood, the nonprofit sector, and the universities, are the primary cause of the volcano of anger toward America that is erupting from the Islamic world.”
Against that backdrop, D’Souza’s motives for spreading lies about the 2020 election in “2000 mules” becomes patently obvious: to spread however many lies that it takes to destroy the liberty that has made America exceptional.
Blaming America in a somewhat different way than D’Souza, Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson on September 13 blamed America for the 9/11 attacks on the 700 Club television show – just two tender days after the attacks themselves: “I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays, and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People for the American Way…I point the finger in their face and say, ‘You helped this happen.’” To his credit, Falwell did eventually apologize – an act of faint decency that you would never see from MAGA today,
One thing is for certain: the right wing bashes the livin’ shit out of America. But that isn’t all.
So-called “patriotic” music also bashes the crap out of America; “patriot” singer Carl Klang belts out one anti-American song after another, even going so far as to hint at killing police officers around 3:10 “… Then maybe we should turn off his lights [lo-o-o-o-o-ong pause].” Milder but still problematic is “We Must Take America Back” by musician Steve Vaus, asserting that America will only be good again after they “take it back” from the people whom they hate.
America. They blame it for every damn thing that goes wrong.
