… then your chances of defeating it drop substantially.
A quote attributed to Stephen King on Bluesky reads: “Republicans: When are you going to stop supporting Trump and start supporting America?”
You don’t get it. They think that Trump IS America. More specifically, they believe that Trump is their pathway to establishing the cruel, brutal, Taliban-like religious dictatorship that 35 years of MAGA revisionist history has told them that our nation was really meant to be.
MAGA totalitarian Bryan Fischer, affiliated with the SPLC-listed MAGA hate group American Family Association, wrote in a now-scrubbed piece for that same organization:”Native Americans morally disqualified themselves from the land.” He justified the genocide of Native Americans, to wit:
“International legal scholars have always recognized that sovereign control of land is legitimately transferred in at least three ways: settlement, purchase, and conquest. Europeans have to this day a legitimate claim on American soil for all three of those reasons.”
Conquest. We’re talking massacre, and he attempts to justify it in his opening paragraph:
“In all the discussions about the European settlement of the New World, one feature has been conspicuously absent: the role that the superstition, savagery and sexual immorality of native Americans played in making them morally disqualified from sovereign control of American soil.”
Now, drop that into today’s context of hateful rallying cries to “take America back” and suddenly January 6th makes perfect sense.
“Christian” nationalist musician Carman’s 1993 song, God’s Got an Army, alludes to this passage in the King James Bible: “[T]he kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.”
Get the context now? MAGA believes that the rest of us have “morally disqualified ourselves from being considered real Americans,” and MAGA is willing to murder the rest of us to reclaim “their” land, in the name of “conquest.” Let that soak in.
To be fair, I honestly don’t think that most Trump voters want that to happen, nor would they approve. But the activists and power-brokers at the top, like Stephen Miller, that Goebbels look-alike with his Himmler-like cruelty, would with little doubt salivate at the green light to launch an all-out new genocide against anyone who doesn’t believe as they do and who isn’t willing to kneel before them.
It’s the people at the top that decide to do these things, and that’s what makes them particularly dangerous.
The trouble is, as many as 25% of the American population may be willing to let it happen, as that is the percentage with the Authoritarian Personality Trait — the percentage of any human population that is predisposed to go along with whatever the strongmen at the top order.
We outnumber them by at least three to one. But 100% of us must be willing to rise to the occasion for that advantage to matter.
